Legend of the Leprechauns

I love to celebrate the holidays!!! St. Patrick's day sometimes gets skipped over, but I wanted to find something fun for my girls to look forward to on this day. Last year I ran across this idea (Treasure Box) and knew I wanted to do it for my girls. That weekend we happened to have my sister-in-law in town with her three boys so it made it extra fun!! We just went to Wal-Mart and picked anything we wanted that was in the color green!!
We put in the box: green gum, Pringles, candy, and Rolo's of course!!! Whatever treasure your kids might like, a book, or some printables, or word puzzles. Make it fun! We also made sure that they knew the leprechauns had been there! The leprechauns had! They knocked over the cereal box, turned our milk green, and they even had left their trail in the bathroom.

For the last few weeks the girls have been begging to do this again! How could I turn down the Legend of the Leprechauns.

Here is the step by step process for our treasure box:

Step 1: Spray paint a box! Any size box will do!
** This step is optional. You can decorate a plain box if desired. I just wanted mine to be green this year!

Step 2: Attach this cute poem from Family Fun to the box with glue. I have tried to find the original poem from Family Fun and cannot find the link. This is for personal use only!

LEGEND OF THE LEPRECHAUNS
Full of magic and trickery, the leprechauns remain in their hidden world until the night before St. Patrick's Day. On that one night of the year they appear throughout the world to dance and sing and frolic.

Disguising themselves as leaves and grass, and sounding like the wind and the crickets, they come and go unnoticed.

However, it is said that if a decorated treasure box is left empty under the moon, the leprechauns must fill the box with gold or jewels or gifts. But then they will hide the filled box in the most unlikely of places.

If the box is found on St. Patrick's Day, the treasure remains in our world. If not, the leprechauns may retrieve what is rightfully theirs. And though the leprechauns are very clever, it is not impossible to find the treasure because, unknowingly, leprechauns often leave a trail of greenery behind them.

Step 3: Let the kids decorate the box HOW they want too! Use whatever craft supplies you have on hand.
(This is really hard for me, because I want it too look a certain way, but this is their box.)

Step 4: Leave the box empty under the moon and the Leprechauns will fill the box with treasure, gold and gifts.

May the Legend of the Leprechauns make its way into your home, but don't be alarmed when there is a trail of greenery all over your house!
