Simple Summer Journal

summer journal

I love to keep a journal. I really do. I have tried to keep a journal over the years and have done a pretty good job at it. I also want to teach my kids to keep a journal. Well... that part I have not done a good job. My girls have never written in a journal. Yes... they have many but have not gotten past one week, I don't think. When I got home from our little vacation to San Diego, California I wanted them to write down something they liked about the trip, something they will remember about the trip, something they experienced on the trip etc. I had many journals sitting out but I knew that the "big" journal and "big" paper just seemed to "big" for them. But... if they could write a few sentences on a 3x5 card then by the end of the summer they would have a cute little journal. I had two different sizes of index cards, a 3x5 for the littler one and a 4x6 for the older two girls.
I made them just write down several sentences on the card. It was the perfect size.  It took them all of about 5 minutes. Hopefully, they will be able to do this every day this summer and then they will be able to look back once summer is over and have a simple summer journal.

Want to make your own, here is what you need:

Simple Summer Journal
By Carrie Perrins

30-60 3x5 index cards or 4x6 index cards
Loose-Leaf Book Rings
Hole Puncher
Free Printable

Directions:
Print off free printable. Punch hole in all index cards and free printable. Attach to a Loose-Leaf Book Ring.
Write Away!
Yes... it is very simple. But... I really hope that my girls will have a summer journal when the summer comes to an end.

To download, just right click and SAVE to your computer and then print.

When you print the free printable... the size isn't the exact size of the index card. I adapted it and copied a 4x6 card onto the free printable and cut it that way. I printed this several times at a 3x5 and 4x6 and couldn't get a perfect fit to the card, so just play with your printer settings and see if it works for you. If not, just copy the index card onto the free printable. That worked for me.

I really hope that my girls will be able to make some wonderful summer memories. And more importantly I really hope that they will be able to take a few minutes every day and write it down, so that they will be able to remember the summer of 2013.
Now... go make your kids a Simple Summer Journal. You and your kids will thank me for the "little" Simple Summer Journal at the end of the summer. It will be fun to look back and remember all the good times!

Have a great summer!
