Salt & Pepper Shakers

Salt & Pepper Shakers. You have a set for your table right? These 4th of July salt & pepper shakers will really dress up your table.

Do you shop at thrift stores?? I do. I love to wander and find used things that can be turned into something new. A set of wooden Salt & Pepper Shakers were thrown into my cart one shopping trip. They sat in my craft closet for sometime. That is because I knew I wanted to have a makeover on them... but just wasn't sure how... until now.
Introducing... Mr. Blue Salt and Mrs. Red Pepper.

These salt and pepper shakers will make their debut appearance this coming 4th of July.
They were so easy to make... and ended up being way cute! I loved making them. Easy Peasy!

Salt & Pepper Shakers
By Carrie Perrins

1 set wooden salt and pepper shakers
red, white, and blue acrylic paint
paintbrushes
painters tape
sandpaper
Minwax® wood stain (optional)

Directions:
If you want a certain color to show through your paint... then stain it that color. If you are okay with the original wood color showing through... then don't. I stained mine. Follow the directions on the stain can. Let dry.

Step 1. Tape off the bottom portion by wrapping painters tape around the shaker. Then wrap painters tape around the top portion. Paint the middle section with the red acrylic paint. Let Dry.

Step 2. Remove tape from top and bottom and re-tape the red section. Paint bottom of shakers with white acrylic paint. Let dry.

Step 3. Remove painters tape and paint the top section with blue acrylic paint. I removed the gold screw and painted over the entire top part. Attach gold screw back to shaker.

Step 4. Sand lightly with sandpaper. It is great... you can sand it a little or a lot... whatever your preference is.
See... the wood shines through.

Step 5. Add salt and pepper. Set on dinner table.

Mr. Blue Salt and Mrs. Red Pepper... are fun, festive, and make quite the pair. They will totally dress up your serving table. (Recipe for this Chicken Pasta Salad is coming...)
Enjoy!
