Chocolate Crackletop Cookies

I think that when it comes to baking cookies... a visual picture always helps. In a cookbook if you see a picture of a recipe... it entices you to want to make it.

I think that is why I am so addicted to Pinterest.

The Food.

And The Pictures.

In every cookbook... if I see a picture of a recipe it calls to me... it says MAKE ME!

This recipe did just that.

I saw this recipe in a cookbook and they looked so good. Now... I am one to admit when I make a recipe.... it almost always doesn't turn out as good as the picture looks.

Except these cookies!!!

These Chocolate Crackle Cookies... far exceeded my expectations.

Gooey in the middle.

A semi-hard outer exterior.

And the pink and red m&m's.

To die for... really!!!

Here is the recipe:

Chocolate Crackle Cookies

By Carrie Perrins
*adapted by Gifts from the Kitchen

2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
2 cups granulated sugar
½ cup butter (1stick)
4 squares (1 ounce each) unsweetened baking chocolate, chopped
4 eggs, lightly beaten
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 ½ cups m&m's

additional granulated sugar

Directions:
1. Combine flour and baking powder; set aside.
2. In a 2 quart saucepan over medium heat combine 2 cups sugar, butter, and chocolate, stirring until butter and chocolate are melted. Remove from heat.
3. Gradually stir in eggs and vanilla.
4. Stir into flour mixture until blended.
5. Chill mixture 1 hour in the refrigerator.
6. Stir in m&m's
7. Chill mixture an additional hour.
8. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
9. Line Cookie sheets with tinfoil.
10. With sugar-dusted hands, roll dough into 1 inch balls, roll balls in additional sugar.
11. Place cookies 2 inches apart on prepared pan.
12. Bake 10-12 minutes. Do not overbake.
13. Cool on wire racks.
Makes about 2 dozen cookies.

Now... I know that these cookies take time. You will want to refrigerate them, so please don't skip that step. But once they are baked... you will be glad you took the time to make them.

They are going to be ranked up next to my favorite cookie... Almond Butter Sugar Cookies.

A picture says a thousand words. But... some pictures don't do them justice. Trust me when I say... you will LOVE these cookies.
