Framed Flag

Tomorrow is Flag Day!
Flag Day... June 14, 1777.
America declared its independence from the British Empire on July 4, 1776.
A year later on June 14... the United States adopted the flag. We celebrate flag day by displaying an American flag.  I love to drive around town and see all the flags. It represents to me.. loyalty and patriotism. I love to see the flags blowing in the wind... just beautiful.

Today... I am dreaming. Dreaming of having a entryway table with decorations. Yes... my entryway is empty. I know that someday I will have a entryway table. I haven't been lucky enough to find a "free" table off to the side of the road. Here in Arizona... I can't seem to find any tables at the local thrift stores and I am not willing to pay lots of money for one.
If I had a entryway table... this would go on it!
This Framed Flag is truly American.

Here is how I made it...

Framed Flag
By Carrie Perrins

1 large flag (8 x12")
scissors, rotary cutter, or paper cutter
printer
frame
white acrylic paint
sand paper

Directions:
Take your flag (which I found mine at Target) and cut it or rip it off the pole. Just be careful not to rip it too much. Then trim the flag where it was attached to the pole... just a tiny bit not cutting off too much. You just want to make it even and straight.
Print any saying on it from your computer. I chose America-1776. Simple... but profound. When printing on you flag... it can be a little tricky. I would print it out on a piece of paper first just to make sure it prints where you want it and how you want it. I had to make mine sideways to get it to print on the flag the horizontal way. Play with your computer settings and print it the way you want it. Just don't print onto your flag until you are absolutely positive it is how and where you want your saying or quote. If you do print it wrong... like I did... you might just have to run back to the store to get another one... or you could just buy two flags just in case... either way works. As for the color... this was a dark navy blue and it still turned out looking black. I didn't use any other colors so I am not sure how that would turn out.

 Example:

For the frame... I just picked up a cheap 8x10 frame from the local thrift store... painted it white with an acrylic paint... let dry.. sanded it a bit to give a old vintage look.

To frame the flag... take the glass or cardboard piece behind the glass and measure it onto the flag (keeping the stars) and trim it a 8x10 size.
Frame it... and display. It is beautiful or should I say... America... is beautiful!

*You can use any saying or quote... but it won't print onto the blue and white stars... see... and do a better job than me putting the flag into your computer right... I didn't and it printed it upside down. I tried different sayings and just ended up using a simple saying.

However... it still turned out exactly how I wanted it too!
I love it!

Let us break out those flags... hang them... display them... etc.
Happy Flag Day!
